Rehab 2012 Raises All-Time Record Amount

The West Texas Rehabilitation Center’s 42ND annual telethon and auction Saturday raised more than $1.33 million dollars, a new all-time record for the REHAB fundraiser. The total at midnight was $1,335,664. The overall total in 42 years is almost 35 million dollars. Last year’s total at midnight was $1,209,995. In 2008 the all-time record was set at $1,271,367.

Director of Donor Relations Dan Huggins expressed thanks to everyone who had a role in helping the Rehab raise the funds that go to support patients at facilities in Abilene, San Angelo and Ozona. Huggins said “We are so grateful for the continued support and very pleased with the outcome.”

The five-hour long live television show, which was broadcast in 10 television markets, featured the country star Sunny Sweeney and host Charlie Chase, along with Red Steagall, Bill and Susan Hayes, Brad Maule and local talent Twyla Foreman. The event was also streamed live on the Internet.

The Internet auction raised $289,043. and that amount is included in the overall total. Auction distribution began Sunday with the calling of the high bidders. Winning bidders picked up their items Sunday afternoon at the Abilene Civic Center, and distribution continues this week in Abilene and San Angelo.

The telethon’s official sponsor this year was Suddenlink Communications. Also, underwriting the show was Area-Wide Phone Book.

NTS Communications was the auction sponsor and MCM Elegante Suites was the host hotel.
